Back to Full. For the first time since 2019, Lake Travis is officially full. After rising nearly ten feet in just a few days, the lake reached 681 feet Friday night. Sometimes Island has disappeared beneath the surface, docks are floating again, and familiar shorelines suddenly look unfamiliar.

It’s a sight many around the lake have hoped to see — it’s worth celebrating, but not without perspective. The rain that filled Lake Travis also devastated communities across the Hill Country. This week, gratitude and grief have shared the same shoreline.

Here’s what’s happening around the lake.

Last Week’s Poll Results. We asked who you were rooting for in the World Cup final, but our favorite response wasn’t about the score at all. One Argentine reader living in Lakeway was surprised to learn that Argentina’s criollo cattle and the Texas Longhorn share the same Spanish roots. It’s a reminder that even places separated by thousands of miles can have more in common than you’d think.

Speaking of history, here's one we're curious about closer to home...

For the Road Trip: Condé Nast Traveler just named the drive from Lampasas to Brenham one of America’s most scenic road trips. The route winds through Blue Bell country, wildflower fields, and a handful of small Texas towns that reward taking the slower road. Hill Country weekends don’t always need a destination.

For the Wine List: Steiner Ranch Steakhouse quietly landed on Wine Spectator’s list of Austin restaurants with outstanding wine programs. You probably knew it for the lake views and steaks. Turns out the wine cellar deserves its own reservation.

White Rocks Meets More Red Tape. The proposed White Rocks amphitheater hit another hurdle after Travis County commissioners opposed a key state permit, reminding everyone that building a venue can take almost as long as waiting for the encore.

A Different Kind of School Project. Lake Travis ISD approved the sale of 17 acres near Lakeway Elementary, turning unused land into long-term support for teachers and the district.

Shelf Improvement. The Lake Travis Community Library is looking for teen volunteers this summer. A few hours of shelving books beats spending the whole break scrolling — and looks considerably better on a college application.

Adopt Me. Meet Delilah, Austin Humane Society’s longest-stay resident. Seven years old, wonderfully well-mannered, and somehow still waiting for the home she’s deserved all along.

Nature’s Pressure Release Valve. After years of watching the lake drop, we’re now watching it spill over. Mansfield Dam is releasing water for the first time since Lake Travis returned to full pool — it’s an impressive sight you don’t see every year.
