Where History Meets Weird. That building at the corner of Highway 71 and Bee Cave Road has lived a lot of lives. Back in 1935, Tom Johnson opened it as the Johnson Trading Post, a country store that even had its own rodeo grounds out back. It carried on for decades before the building flipped through new identities, including a stretch as Jim Bob’s, which many say had incredible breakfast tacos.

By the early 2010s, it took on its most colorful persona yet: Planet K, complete with Kerry Awn’s mural that sparked a courtroom battle with the city over whether art could be called a sign. Today, it stands as a place where Hill Country history and Austin weird collide.
