For those feeling a little more ambitious this year, skip the pre-orders and fire up the kitchen. According to the Austin American-Statesman, Texas’ favorite Thanksgiving side is a classic cornbread dressing - and we’ve listed their recipe below. Once you’ve mastered it, scroll down for a few more Lone Star–approved holiday dishes curated by Texas Monthly.

Photo from Austin American-Statesmen website
TEXAS CORNBREAD DRESSING
Ingredients:
3 cups crumbled cornbread
2 tablespoons butter
1 small onion, diced
½ cup chopped celery
2 large eggs, beaten
2 cups chicken stock
1 tablespoon dried sage, or more to taste
Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Prep the vegetables: In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and celery, cooking until the vegetables are soft and translucent.
Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the crumbled cornbread, cooked vegetables, beaten eggs, chicken stock, sage, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly moistened.
Bake: Transfer the mixture to a lightly greased medium baking dish. Bake in a preheated oven (usually around 350°F) until the dressing is golden brown and set.
