Dog Days. Summer has finally remembered it's summer. After a surprisingly forgiving June and July, this week is expected to be the hottest of the year so far, with triple-digit temperatures settling over Central Texas and heat index values climbing even higher.
Around Lake Travis, that means early tee times, full marinas, afternoon pool floats, and the annual race from the parking lot to the nearest air conditioning. Drink more water than you think you need, save the dog walks for sunrise, and if you're looking for relief, the lake has perfect timing.
Here's what's happening around the lake.

Summer Upgrade. This cordless misting fan feels like one of those purchases you won't appreciate until this week. Battery-powered, portable, and surprisingly effective whether you're at a ballgame, grilling, gardening, or hanging out on your patio.
Something More Portable. This phone-powered mini fan is about the size of a pack of gum but puts out an impressive breeze. Toss it in your purse, beach bag, or golf cart and thank yourself later.
For Your Neck. This cooling towel sound gimmicky until you spend ten minutes outside. Wet it, wring it out, snap it a few times, and it stays noticeably cooler than the air for far longer than you'd expect.
For those Bug Bites. These mosquito repellent bands are a nice first line of defense for evenings on the patio, walks around the neighborhood, or chasing kids around the park without smelling like citronella.

The Next Pour. The former Deep Eddy tasting room in Dripping Springs won't stay empty for long. Local distiller Goodnight Loving Vodka takes over August 1, with an opening date still to come.
Cookie Pilgrimage. Not exactly Lake Travis, but we couldn't ignore this one: New York's legendary Levain Bakery is bringing its famously oversized cookies to The Domain next year. Our future selves are already planning the detour.
Not So Fast. The City of Bee Cave issued a cease-and-desist order for three Highway 71 developments at Sweetwater Crossing, alleging work began before approvals were in place and raising concerns about flood control and water quality. Déjà vu?
Adopt Me. Meet Kentucky, a two-year-old Husky/Shepherd mix whose ideal itinerary includes a long hike, followed immediately by a very committed nap beside (or preferably on) you.
