Queen Bee. Bee Cave’s mayoral race is heating up, and the decisions tied to it land squarely at home, from traffic patterns along 620 to what gets built (and what doesn’t) over the next decade.
With growth accelerating and infrastructure feeling the strain, the choice comes down to a familiar tension: how to manage a city that’s no longer a hidden pocket of the Hill Country, but not quite ready to feel like Austin either.
It’s a reminder that in a place like Lake Travis, local elections tend to matter more than most - not because they’re louder, but because they’re closer.
With that, here’s what’s happening around the lake this week.

Last Week’s Poll Results. We asked, and Lake Travis answered decisively. When it comes to the best Mexican spot around the lake, Santa Catarina didn’t just edge ahead - it created a little distance, leaving a crowded field of worthy contenders behind it. Don Mario held strong, while Bajo La Luna and Flores stayed firmly in the conversation. La Cabaña, Grill On, and Vaqueros each proved they have their own loyal followings as well.
And then came the write-ins - Maudie’s, Rosie’s - because of course there were. Some loyalties around here aren’t up for a vote.
Which brings us to the next question: when it comes to pizza, where does your loyalty lie?

This Week in 1973. A snapshot of Lake Travis life in 1973 reads a lot like today - just with smaller price tags and bigger debates. The founding editors of the Lake Travis News signed off after four years, handing the paper to a new generation. Meanwhile, locals were locked in a heated fight with the LCRA over septic fees, and local elections were drawing attention.
Elsewhere - Lakeway welcomed one of its first local doctors, the Hudson Bend Garden Club organized a community cleanup, and even a stolen pickup truck made the rounds, thanks to a copied key and a questionable decision.

Your Civic Era. Travis County Government is looking for volunteers to step into a few open roles - including Animal Advisory, Civil Service, and the Sobering Center - for anyone ready to graduate from group chat takes to actual decision-making.
Your Morning, Interpreted. The Cosmic Cup quietly opened in January at Fetch Food Park off Hamilton Pool Road, serving coffee sourced from women growers in Oaxaca alongside tarot readings - because sometimes your latte comes with a little perspective.
Adopt Me. Meet Latte - a tiny, brave Dachshund mix puppy with a big personality and an even bigger heart, ready to find the family he'll tumble, explore, and cuddle his way through life with.
