A Town That Was Moved Here. Long before Bee Cave filled in with restaurants and neighborhoods, Star Hill Ranch was already there, quietly collecting pieces of Texas that were starting to disappear.

It began in the 1970s, when founder Alan “Doc” Kirchhoff started relocating historic buildings from small towns across the state - old homes, a post office, even a gas station - and rebuilding them into what feels like a preserved Hill Country town. Not a replica, but the real thing, just moved and stitched back together.

Now it hosts weddings, film shoots, and this weekend, the Texas Whiskey Festival. Same buildings, different crowds - but the setting still does most of the work.

Last Week’s Poll Results. We asked whether you own a boat - and the answers felt very Lake Travis. Plenty of you do. Some of you did. And a growing number have figured out a way to skip the hassle entirely.

For a few longtime locals, the story spans decades - back when the lake felt a little quieter and owning a boat made perfect sense. Others still swear by it, as one reader describes it: "There's a certain feeling of peace and freedom that becomes the experience. Nothing like it. IYKYK. #SailorsLife". And then there’s the newer camp: boat club memberships. Show up, head out, hand back the keys - no maintenance, no storage, no second thoughts.

Different approaches, same idea: everyone’s just trying to enjoy the lake their own way.

Now we’re shifting from boats to something a little more everyday.

Put Yourself On the Map. Long before GPS led you astray into someone's driveway, Lake Travis News offered something far more reliable: a hand-drawn advertiser map and the sage advice to "Use This Handy Guide - What You Want, Where to Find It."

The April 14, 1970 edition lovingly illustrated a chart of Lake Travis and surrounds - a page given over almost entirely to local advertisers, and all the better for it. Numbered markers pointed readers toward everything their lakeside hearts could desire - from Liz's Restaurant ("where Lake Travis visitors have been gathering and enjoying good food for many years") to the Highland Lakes Inn in Volente ("where folks gather to enjoy good meals"), to the Lakeway Inn and Marina, billed as "the smartest gathering place on Lake Travis, attracting folks from all over the world."

It was advertising dressed up as public service, and nobody seemed to mind. In 1970, finding a cold beer and a warm welcome on the lake was apparently a community effort - one that required a map, a phone book, and the good fortune of knowing Pete and Margie Peterson's number by heart.

Advertise With Us. Some things don't change. People still want to know where to find a great meal, a good time, and a trustworthy neighbor - and they still rely on their community to point the way. If your business belongs on the map, we'd love to help put it there. Let us introduce you to the readers who are already looking for exactly what you offer.

More Fields, More Games. Bee Creek Sports Complex is adding two new synthetic multi-purpose fields for soccer and lacrosse, plus shaded seating, lighting, and extra parking. Construction is underway now with a Spring 2027 debut - existing fields remain open in the meantime.

Messi, But Bigger. Lionel Messi is headed to Kyle Field on June 6 as Argentina faces Honduras, marking the largest stadium of his career - because apparently Austin wasn’t quite big enough.

Adopt Me. Meet Wrigley, a 1.5-year-old happy-go-lucky pup with a contagious smile, a full-body tail wag, and the kind of charm that tends to win over everyone int he room (and then some).
