Spring Break Mode

Plus crawfish, mahjong, and more

Today’s current water level: 75.6%

Spring Break is in full swing, and if the airport is any indication, half of Austin seems to be going somewhere else for the week. More than 112,000 travelers passed through Austin-Bergstrom between Friday and Sunday as SXSW wrapped up, with TSA lines forming before sunrise.

Meanwhile, things feel a little different. Kids are home from school, patios are filling up, and the Hill Country is starting to look a lot like spring again - and we’re keeping things just as easygoing with a shorter-than-usual edition while we’re on Spring Break.

Here’s what’s happening this week.

So we’re running it back.

Can the reigning favorites hold onto their titles, or is there a new contender ready to take the crown? We’ll start with Mexican restaurants, where last year’s winner was Santa Catarina.

What's your favorite Mexican restaurant around the lake?

SXSW, Year One. Back in 1987, SXSW was supposed to draw a few hundred people - more than 700 showed up. What began as a small regional music meetup quickly turned into a launchpad for artists and a defining piece of Austin’s identity. We dug up the original 1987 schedule - take a look.
