Satellites in Bee Cave

Plus is La Cabana Back?

Today’s current water level: 78.5%

Winter? I Hardly Know Her. January seems to be borrowing straight from December’s weather playbook. Usually our coldest month, temperatures climbed to 88° on January 2, the second warmest January day on record.

Thanks to a lingering La Niña, forecasters say warmer-than-normal days are likely to stick around. Cold fronts will still roll through, but will be short-lived with brief dips into the 40s and 30s before handing things right back to patio weather.

While sweaters remain on standby, your weekend plans don’t have to. Here’s some great events to start off the new year.

New Year, Fresh Intentions. Not the “wake up at 5am” kind of resolutions - this is the Lake Travis edition. Fewer accidental trips to 620, more sunsets, more local spots, and maybe, just maybe, less time wandering HEB aisles. Some of these are ambitious, some aspirational, and some we’ll absolutely abandon by February - and that’s okay.

  1. Finally learn the back roads
No more pretending you meant to end up on 620.

  2. Watch at least one sunset without checking your phone
Bonus points if it’s from a restaurant, dock, or your tailgate.

  3. Support one new local business a month
    Coffee counts. So does beer.

  4. Attend one event you found in this newsletter
    Yes, we’re unofficially keeping score.

  5. Say yes to more “last-minute” Hill Country plans
The best ones usually start that way.

  6. Become a regular somewhere
Where the barista, bartender, or brewery dog knows your order.

  7. Spend more time outside than inside HEB
    Ambitious, we know.

  8. Try one thing that feels very “Lake Travis” but you’ve never done
Early-morning car meet. Sunset hike. Live music on a random Tuesday.

  9. Host more, scroll less
Neighbors over feeds. Drinks optional, connection required.

Room to Dream. Just listed in Lago Vista - a rare 315-acre tract inside city limits has hit the market, complete with cove access on Lake Travis, mature oak trees, and wide-open pastures. All for $31.5M.

It’s the kind of land you almost never see this close to Austin, and it naturally sparks some big “what could this become?” conversations - from a private family compound to luxury estates or something more thoughtfully planned. At the very least, it’s a reminder that Lago Vista still has meaningful room to shape its future.

A Plot Twist for Bee Cave. After a year of legal drama, the industrial eyesore off 71 will swap distribution warehouses for satellites. Come again? Yes, the site will become CesiumAstro’s HQ. Traffic drops dramatically, and the city walks away with $500K and a much quieter outcome.

Wait, What is That? That construction off 71 across from McCoy’s? It’s The Village of Spanish Oaks - planned for a hotel, spa, shops, homes, and senior living - and it’s up for discussion at the next city council meeting.

Taco ‘Bout a Move. La Cabaña is popping back up at the old Apis Restaurant just down the road from their original location. Look for them to reopen in mid-January with a fresh address but the same favorite flavors you know and love.

Adopt Me. Meet Mookie, a sweet and easygoing pup with legendary bat ears, perfect leash manners, and a whole lot of love awaiting his future favorite human.

Did you catch Monday evening’s fiery sunset? In case you missed it, reader Randall Wood captured it perfectly at Dripping Springs Racquet Club. Absolutely breathtaking - definitely one of those “this is why we live here” moments.
