The Last Long Weekend. Labor Day arrives Monday, bringing with it the unofficial end of summer — although someone forgot to tell the Texas forecast (check it out below).
Around Lake Travis, it’s less an ending than one last big weekend on the water. Boats will be out, ramps will be busy, grills will be going, and every available patch of shade will command a premium.
Enjoy the extra day. Summer certainly isn’t going anywhere yet.

Celebrating 10 Years. For the past decade, the Lake Travis Community Library Bookmobile has been bringing the library directly to the community — pulling into preschools, assisted living facilities, RV parks, food pantries, and neighborhoods across Lake Travis with books, mobile hotspots, library services, and plenty of familiar faces.
And it’s covered some ground. Since hitting the road in 2016, more than 154,000 library materials have been checked out, 40,000 books given away, and nearly 138,000 community members served. What began with 20 regular stops has grown to more than 30 today.
The best measure of those ten years might be found inside the bookmobile itself. Outreach Librarian Karen Ballinger says some of the kids who once measured just a few shelves tall are now three or four shelf heights bigger — and occasionally taller than she is.
More than 50 volunteers have helped keep the bookmobile rolling along the way, creating the kind of small, personal interactions that make a mobile library feel like much more than a place to return a book.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Bookmobile will be handing out special anniversary stickers and bookmarks throughout September, while supplies last. Visitors can also tackle a bookmobile-themed scavenger hunt and share what they love about their library on wheels.

From Butcher Shop to Bathroom. One we didn’t see coming: Lakeway’s Texas Beef Traders now has its own tallow skincare collection. Ranch-raised beef fat from Mason gets turned into small-batch body butter, face sticks, and “tallow dots” right here in Central Texas. Ribeyes and moisturizer, one stop.
Worth the Croissant Run. MorninGlory’s strawberry cheesecake croissant gives the classic French pastry a Mediterranean spin. Two-day sourdough, French butter, house-made cheese, kataifi, rose water, orange blossom, pistachio, and rose petals — all for $8.50, assuming you get there before they sell out.
Full Lake, Low Pressure. Three LTISD campuses — Rough Hollow Elementary, Lake Travis Middle, and Bee Cave Middle — temporarily lost water pressure last week as the West Travis County PUA struggled to refill its storage tanks. The culprit: 5.27 million gallons used in overnight irrigation bursts when watering wasn’t allowed. Stage 3 restrictions are now in effect, limiting sprinklers to one assigned morning a week.
New Name, Same Sweat. Studio84 Hot Yoga is now open in the former Hill Country Hot Yoga space in Lakeway, with classes ranging from Original Hot Yoga and vinyasa to hot Pilates. Drop-ins start at $26.
Adopt Me. Meet Dino, a uniquely colored cuddle bug with a weakness for stuffed toys and a strong preference for having a canine sidekick. He’s looking for an active home with another playful dog to keep the good times going.
Better Late Than Kickoff. After last week’s opener against Dripping Springs was canceled, Lake Travis finally gets its season underway Friday at 7pm at The Pfield in Pflugerville against Weiss. The Cavs are coming off a 14–1 run to the state semifinals, while Weiss has already knocked off Round Rock 42–28 behind a casual six-touchdown night from quarterback Jaxon Schad.
