Today’s current water level: 73.3%

Beyond the Inbox. After a much needed reset, Lake Travis Current has relaunched its website. The site brings everything together: events, local guides, live music, past issues, and stories that deserve more than a quick scroll.

It’s built around the same idea as the newsletter - making it easier to feel connected to what’s happening here. Whether you’re planning for the weekend, discovering a new spot, or just keeping up with the community, it’s all in one place.

We’re still building out the community features, so stay tuned, but the foundation is there.

Still curated, still local, just a little easier to explore (and share).

Now, on to what’s happening around the lake this week.

Thanks for Spreading the Word. Last week we asked if you have shared the newsletter and plenty of you wrote in to say yes. Truly, thank you.

If you've been meaning to pass it along, now's a great time: the new website is live - what didn’t fit in the inbox, is now all in one place.

You're the reason this thing keeps growing. Speaking of growth, let’s talk zip codes.

🔴 🟡 🟢

Trace the Colorado River west from Downtown Austin toward Lake Travis, and the zip codes start telling a very specific story.

Several of the wealthiest pockets in the entire state cluster along this stretch, with West Lake Hills sitting comfortably at the top of Texas’ richest zip code list.

Take a short drive around Lake Travis and you’ll move between some of the highest-earning zip codes in the metro. Proximity to water, views, and a little breathing room has quietly pulled a serious share of the region’s top incomes westward, reshaping Lake Travis into one of the most economically polarized (and fastest evolving) pockets of the city.

Translation: the lake isn’t just where Austin comes to play. It’s increasingly where Austin comes to stay.

So - where does your zip code land on this list?

Smoke from Mexico. Not the mezcal kind. Central Texas has been sitting under a layer of haze from a mix of dust, humidity, and lingering smoke from agricultural burning ramps in Mexico. It makes everything feel slightly filtered - basically the Hill Country, but with the contrast turned down.

Tequila, Now Local. A new family-owned agave distillery, Bella Loma, just opened its tasting room in Spicewood - house-distilled blanco and reposado, margaritas and Mexican martinis, with añejo, mezcal, and whiskey on the way. Dogs welcome, BYO snacks, and one more good reason to wander west.

Your Newest Reason to Redecorate. Bee Cave’s newest interior design shop, Sicara Design, opens its doors with a launch party this Friday evening, May 1. Drinks, bites, a first look at the space, and an early peek at unique designs before the rest of the Galleria catches on.

Free Flows. Lakeway’s new woman-owned yoga studio, The Yoga Tiki, opens its doors with free classes all day this Saturday, May 2nd. Flow, sculpt, yin, and sound are split between the heated Jungle and breezy Tiki Shala. Register on the website.

Adopt Me. Meet Mina, an 8-pound, one-year-old wirehaired dachshund who has clearly decided that wherever you are is exactly where she needs to be.

Happy Birthday, Willie. Our Spicewood neighbor, Willie Nelson, turned 93 yesterday - technically twice, thanks to a birth certificate mix-up that gave him both April 29 and 30. Deeply on-brand for a man who’s never met a rule he couldn’t gently ignore.

From dropping out of Baylor to chase the song, Willie zigged when Nashville zagged and found his groove in Austin’s outlaw scene. Lucky for us, that story still runs through Lake Travis - Luck Ranch in Spicewood keeps the spirit alive: equal parts music, community, and Texas lore.

A few things we’ll never get over:

  • He wrote “On the Road Again” on an airplane barf bag

  • His guitar “Trigger” has played 10,000+ shows and survived a house fire

  • He once out-smoked Snoop Dogg (allegedly, but we choose to believe it)

  • And yes, he’s still releasing albums well into his 90s

Happy birthday to the original. Long may he ride.
