Homecoming Test. Wednesday night’s homecoming parade rolled through the Hill Country Galleria, and the Cavs get to close out homecoming week in a stadium that barely resembles the old one. Cavalier Stadium came back this fall after a nearly $50 million renovation, with room for 11,090 fans, almost 4,000 more than before.

The house is still warming up. Lake Travis is 4-3-1 heading into Friday’s regular-season finale against Round Rock Westwood, still looking for its first win in the new place.

A homecoming win would be a fine way to fix that.

Here’s what’s happening around the lake.

A Novel Night in Bee Cave. A Sweet Sixteen turned murder scene. A beauty pageant hiding decades of secrets. Texas Hill Country author Kelsey Cox knows how to turn familiar settings into psychological thrillers.

On Thursday, November 12, Cox will headline the 19th annual Lake Travis Reads at Bee Cave Public Library, discussing her two novels, Party of Liars and Pretty Dead Things. Both are packed with unexpected twists, complicated characters, and plenty of small-town secrets.

The evening is free and open to the public, with copies of both books available for purchase and signing. No need to finish either book beforehand, although you may find yourself leaving with both.

Last Week’s Poll Results. We asked which Halloween candy you reach for first, and Reese’s won by a landslide. Chocolate dominated the ballot, sour and fruity candy had a few loyal defenders, and candy corn managed to find someone willing to stand up for it. One reader got specific: “Twix ideally!” A respectable choice.

Candy aside, everyone around here has some kind of relationship with the water. So this week, we want to know:

For the Oyster Hour. Half-price oysters are a pretty convincing reason to leave work a little early. Café Blue at the Hill Country Galleria takes 50% off oysters, shrimp cocktail, ceviche, wine by the glass and signature cocktails. Monday through Friday, 3–6pm, with a second round Friday and Saturday from 9–10pm. Apparently, happy hour can have a happy hour.

For the Teachers. After a full day of other people's children, a discounted crêpe seems reasonable. Vivel Crêpes & Coffee gives Lake Travis ISD teachers 25% off their entire order every Monday from 4pm until closing. Consider it a little extra credit.

For Something Different. Pickles have officially made their way into margaritas. Lago Vista's The Taco Bar serves one called the Kinda Big Dill, which they suggest pairing with a fried chicken taco topped with green chiles, queso and poblano sauce. We're not entirely sure what to make of a pickle margarita, which is precisely why we're curious.

Coffee on Call. Firehouse Coffee Co. has opened on Hwy. 71 in Spicewood, bringing a fire department-themed drive-thru coffee shop to the neighborhood. The first-responder- and veteran-owned spot opens daily at 5:30am, making those early mornings a little easier.

A Social Club of Our Own. West Austin Social is taking shape on RM 620 in Lakeway, with plans for a private mahjong lounge and social club. Memberships are being advertised, and a recent liquor-license filing suggests more is in the works. No confirmed opening date yet.

Adopt Me. Meet Patch, a three-year-old Pittie mix who believes every dog is a potential best friend and every day deserves a little playtime. She’s house-trained, loves being around her people, and would happily trade her foster home for a backyard and a family to call her own.

Sunday Cavs. Four former Cavaliers are representing Lake Travis in the NFL this season, which explains a lot of split loyalties in local living rooms on Sundays.
