School’s Out For Summer. Maycember, mercifully, is behind us - that two-week pileup of recitals, awards, graduations, teacher gifts, field days, end-of-year parties that somehow all land at the same time.
Backpacks have been retired. Pools are filling up. Patios are getting louder, mornings a little quieter, and parents everywhere are quietly realizing they now need to entertain children for the next three months.
Our condolences and calendar are below.

Bella Loma Distillery sits off a quiet ribbon of road off Highway 71 in Spicewood, in a small white building you’d drive past if you weren’t looking for it. We were looking for it.
What was once a landscaping company now houses an Aztec warrior, thoughtfully distilled spirits, and a tasting room that feels more like a friend’s beautifully designed Hill Country home than a commercial space. The massive mural watching over the room immediately pulls you in - a reflection of the heritage and symbolism woven throughout the Bella Loma brand - while colorful Mexican artwork lines the walls giving the space a personal feel.
Maria, the owners’ daughter, walked us through the property, the family story, and the long, patient process of creating a spirit worth pouring. Behind the bar, her husband Connor was mixing cocktails that felt as intentional as the space itself - polished, balanced, and quietly confident.
The standout was the Black “Buda,” custom made with a reposado aged in wine barrels from nearby Stone House Vineyard, giving it a faint rose hue and immediate depth. We also tried the spicy Pepino Margarita and their take on a Mexican Martini, both excellent in completely different ways.
The whole experience feels distinctly local in the best possible way - Hill Country feel, family-run hospitality, small-batch spirits, and zero pretension.
Mark Your Calendars. We’re teaming up for our first-ever The Current x Bella Loma social event on Saturday, June 13th. Cocktails, live music, and a chance to meet neighbors and experience one of the Hill Country’s newest gems.
More details to come.

Last week, we launched the new Lake Travis Restaurant Directory and it had a lot of you clicking around. Useful? Easy to navigate? If you checked it out, we’d genuinely love to hear what you think.

Missing a category? Spot we absolutely should’ve included? Drop us a note and we’ll be happy to add it.

The Bookmark. The Wedding People by Alison Espach is featured in this week’s Books & Bubbly gathering. An easy summer read with enough wit and chaos to justify disappearing to the patio for “one chapter” and resurfacing two hours later. Also pairs well with next week’s silent book club.
The Carry. Born out of Austin, YETI’s Hopper M20 Backpack Cooler has become a piece of the local uniform - boat days, patio nights, and the stretch of summer where nobody’s really checking what time it is anymore.

Movement, Reconsidered. Noa Pilates and Wellness has opened in Lakeway, pairing Pilates with one-on-one physical therapy and a focus on core, mobility, and posture - three words your spine has been quietly waiting to hear.
Expecting Families, Rerouted. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lakeway will soon close its maternity unit, leaving local families with one fewer option close to home for labor and delivery. The hospital cited declining birth volumes and ongoing staffing challenges; the practical effect is a longer drive on what is rarely a patient morning.
Adopt Me. Meet Miley Rose, a Beagle/Husky mix with the energy of a tiny wrecking ball and the disposition of a full-time cuddle buddy. She loves other dogs, has already mastered the dog door, and approaches life the same way she approaches people: full speed ahead.
