About The Current

Written by neighbors, for neighbors.

The Lake Travis Current is what happens when people who love living here start taking notes.

We're a free weekly newsletter covering local events, live music, community news, and everything in between across Lakeway, Bee Cave, Spicewood, Lago Vista, Jonestown, Hudson Bend, Steiner Ranch, and the rest of the Lake Travis area.

No paywall. No clickbait. Just the lake, every Thursday morning.

How This Started

It began with a familiar question.

When we moved to the area, we were constantly asking ourselves the same question: what is there to do around here? The answers were always out there — buried in Google searches, a dozen Facebook groups, venue calendars, and word of mouth — but never in one place. So we started writing them down. What began as a list shared between neighbors is now a weekly read for thousands of households around the lake.

We're not a media company. We're the neighbor who always seems to know what's happening.
What We Care About

Local first. Always.

  • 01

    We live here

This isn't Austin coverage with a lake filter. We write about the places we actually go and the people we actually know.

  • 02

    Community over clicks

No breathless headlines, no manufactured urgency. If it's a quiet week on the lake, we'll tell you it's a quiet week.

  • 03

    Small businesses matter

The new taco spot, the shop that just closed after twenty years — these are the stories that shape a place, and we tell them.

  • 04

    The lake is the thread

Boat docks, patio sunsets, golden-hour walks that run long — everything we write comes back to life on and around the water.

Free to read, free to share. That's not changing.
Made With Our Readers

This newsletter is a group project.

Half our best stories start with a reader's "hey, did you hear...?" The dog photos come from your phones, the poll answers from your kitchen tables, the event tips and openings-and-closings intel from your streets. Hit reply to any issue — we read everything, and more of it ends up in the newsletter than you'd think.

To everyone who reads, replies, forwards, and waves at us around town — thank you. You're the reason this exists.
